Jessy's Reflection

The Lazuri community has remained in their ancestral homelands for the last two thousand years. Apart from brief periods of greater autonomy, they have essentially always been a minority. Until recently, their language was almost never written down at all because noone saw any point in writing it.

While rooted in truth, it's likely there were actually two men named Anicetus who lived around the same time. But there wasn't enough material for a story about either of them so I decided to conflate their histories. Both are pretty violent and some readers may find the adult themes in this book confronting, but boys enjoy that sort of thing. Additionally, it's likely this book would be picked up by older additional language learners who would be less bothered by such content anyway.

Sastra's use of frames makes this title almost look like a comic or a manga. He's not my first illustrator to use that method but he does employ it more frequently and creatively than others. I quite enjoy his style.
